Sherif Arafa is an Egyptian author and cartoonist
Sherif Arafa is a bestselling Arab author from Egypt, a positive psychology researcher and an editorial cartoonist whose work focuses on social and intellectual freedoms such as the freedom of expression, the freedom of the press and resistance to extremism and dogmatism. Through both his books and cartoons, he explores ways to improve mental health, promote open-mindedness and acceptance of others and encourage scientific thinking as a practical framework for understanding everyday issues beyond rigid judgements and polarisation.
His multidisciplinary background gives him a distinctive perspective. He holds a degree in dentistry, a Master of Business Administration and a master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology. This combination of science, psychology, management and art shapes his work, which seeks to simplify complex ideas and turn them into visual and human messages that resonate across cultures.
Arafa began his journalistic career at Egypt’s Rosa El Youssef magazine, where he worked as an editorial cartoonist, writer and section editor before continuing his work in the UAE with Al Ittihad newspaper. His cartoons have appeared in international publications and platforms, including Le Monde, Cartoon Movement and Cartooning for Peace, and he has received several awards for editorial cartooning.
