World in Transition – Climate Change as a Security Risk.

Climate change goes along with massive security risks, argues the Federal Government’s advisory body in its most recent report. Particularly conflict-prone are issues such as the distribution of water, land and food as well as mass migration and compensation payments by those who have caused global warming to the phenomenon’s victims. WBGU reckons many societies will not be able to adapt on their own and that development cooperation will be essential. As climate change intensifies, however, the authors warn, multilateral policy-making will become increasingly difficult. On top of comprehensive analysis, the WBGU offers recommendations for policy-makers and researchers. (cir)
