Aid agencies in Dadaab are overwhelmed
The non-governmental agency Doctors without Borders (MSF) estimates that some 465,000 Somalis desperately need help in the world’s largest refugee camp, Dadaab in Kenya. MSF demands that refugees must be allowed to move to camps in other countries or to safer locations in Kenya.
The humanitarian organisation also recommends that newcomers be registered so they can immediately get medical care, food and a place to live. In October 2011, registrations were discontinued after two MSF staff members were kidnapped from the camp. After the event, international aid organisations limited their commitment in Dadaab. MSF says the staff members have not come free. (ph)
